I have a list with the fields Course and Subject which are meant to be
drop down lists. Is there a way to get the values in 'Subject'
according to what the user has selected in 'Course' field?
For example say an user selects Mathematics in the Course field the
Subject field should show him/her 'Pure maths or combined maths' or
when Business is selected it should show 'Economics,Accounts, etc'. Can
somebody give me a solution ASAP.

I think you are looking for Connecting Web part. Try this www.theserverside.net/.../showarticle.tss

It all depends if he's wanting this on a single web part, or if it can/should be split between web parts. If it's on a single web part you'll need to turn on autopostback on your first drop down, capture the selectedindexchanged event and repopulate the second drop down based on what's been selected.

The tricky part is to make sure that you don't change the data on the control that has fired an event. It must be populated with the same data it had when the event was fired, otherwise it will discard it.

One other thing you'll need to keep in mind is that the events fire after the CreateChildControls, so you'll have to go back and update the control that you created with the new selection data.
