Assigning AD security groups to WSS sites

Asked By: Raymundo House         Date: Jun 14, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 290

Is there a way to add users to WSS sites site-groups from AD security
groups rather than from distribution lists from Exchange. We have
portal sites where users are added to site groups from domain security
groups and we would like to add some of these security groups to some
of the WSS sites of the portal sites.

Yes, just use DOMAIN\GroupName as the user and add  them to a role.

Is there any way to use an AD security  group or distribution  list with cross-site groups? It is cumbersome to type in names every time…. And then when the names in the group change ….it is very tough.

No, only individual accounts work with cross-site groups. The easiest way for me
to think of cross-site groups  is as if I do not have permission to create AD
groups and I need to group users  together to add  to site  groups as if they were
members of an AD group.

You may add  AD groups  to site  groups (not cross-site groups) but the missing
part is the link to AD Users & computer browser. You must know and enter the
group as domain\group. No GUI pick & choose.
