how to assign tasks from the share point portal

How to assign tasks to the team members. what feature i have to use,
so that i can assign task in the portal so when i submit there it will
automatically sends that task to concerned person through mail(outlook).
please any one suggest me on this.

I have used K2.net 2003 for simple and complex work flow in the past.

MOSS 2007 also has OOTB workflow capabilities.
