how to use asp code on a wss site?

  Asked By: Tanya    Date: Dec 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 6523

I am trying to use something like the following on a wss site

<%
clientip=Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")
response.write clientip
Select Case Left(clientip,6)
Case "172.16"
response.write "1"
Case "172.17"
response.write "2"
Case "172.18"
response.write "3"
Case else
response.write "else"End Select
%>

but it does not work, nothing shows on the page. the source of the page gives an error about not being able to access a connected webpart. The webpart I am trying to use this in is a content editor, is there another webpart that will allow asp to run?

ASP is not going to work  since WSS is built on the .NET Framework.
You won't be able to write asp  code within a content  editor web part.

You can always create an excluded path to a folder on the web server, create your ASP page  there, and link to it through the Page Viewer web part. Make sure you have standard ASP enabled on the web server for this to work, though.
