Areas vs Site questions

Asked By: Jordan    Date: Sep 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 961

I have a few questions I would like to see if I could get assistance
on.

Does everyone that has access to the Portal have access to Areas as
well?

I am looking to make my search engine stronger. Any thoughts on doing
this at all?

Is frontpage the best to redesign SP templates?

The answer to your first question is "it depends", you can allow
everyone access  to your areas  or not, users that can access each area is
managed through the Manage Users section of security for each area.
There have been quite a few threads on this group that should give you
some help in figuring out what you can or can't do to the search  engine.
The redesigning of the templates, and I'll assume you are talking about
the 100's of files in the /60 hive, can be done using any text editor. I
used the EditPlus editor for the first redesign and Visual Studio for
any changes since but as long as you are editing the files in the 60
hive directly, it's a matter of personal preference. And, just to state
the obvious here, make a backup of the directory first!
