Areas Inheriting Parents Template

Asked By: Stevie Petty         Date: May 18, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 187

What good does it do for an area to "Inherit Parent's Template"

I end up with an area that looks just like it's parent but it doesn't
seem to have its own content. Whenever I create content in it, the
content ends up in the parents area.

I'd like to be able to make an area with a set of lists and libraries
with documents in them and then make copies of that area that stand
alone as a seperate portal area.

We can do this can't we?

I have experienced the same thing and you inspired me to go hunting.
The only things I could find was a MSFT article stating the template  can
be used to use the parent  template while having different content
(www.microsoft.com/.../c0861881x.mspx
) and a post in the newsgroups that stated:

Don't inherit  parent template, you end  up looking at the same aspx page
in a
sub area  as the parent area does. Some web parts (portal web parts like
listings) show "in context" content, and therefore the rendered content
is
different on each area, but still the same default.aspx page is used.
