April Cumulative Updates and InfoWorker VMs

Date: Oct 13    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 826

I'm not a SharePoint Administrator just running a demo rig until our environment
is built so I want to check if I'm doing it wrong before raising a support call
with Microsoft.

I'm on SPS 2010 Enterprise. I've been testing the April CU to resolve an issue
where if you template a Meeting Workspace and use that template for a recurring
meeting the links break. (..and yes it does fix that issue).

My problem is when I run the CUs it breaks my top level site collection and I
can't create new objects - e.g. a document library.

I've tried this with the InfoWorker vms I've been using on my laptop for
development. I've also spun up the InfoWorker vms in a hosted environment from
their copies. So data corruption seems to be out.

Surely if the April CU did this it would be all over the web. So I'm trying to
work out if my process is wrong or its the InfoWorker VM.

My update process has been:

Downloaded the CUs from:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2512804 and

Snapshotted my 2 server setup.
Installed the SharePoint Foundation update and rebooted
Installed the SharePoint Server update
Ran the product configuration wizard, accepting all the values and rebooted.

Central Administration still works and showed the updates as successful at:

DEMO2010A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 Core 14.0.4763.1000 Installed
DEMO2010A Hotfix for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 (KB2512804)
14.0.5138.5001 Installed
DEMO2010A Microsoft SharePoint Portal 14.0.4763.1000 Installed
DEMO2010A Hotfix for Microsoft Office Server (KB2512800) 14.0.5138.5000

Has anyone run the April CU successfully on their farm or on the InfoWorker
setup? And if you have - what was your previous patch level? I'm wondering if
RTM to April CU is too big a jump.
