Applying a Theme Programatically to a My Site

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Sep 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1359

So I've read through the posts from back in January 2006 regarding
applying a theme programatically to team sites, document work spaces
and meeting workspaces and that works all fine and dandy.

Enter the MySite. I'm trying to reuse the same theme, which works
fine if I apply it manually, but when attempting to modify the theme
using the code that was provided in the newsgroup as well as on the
SharePoint Tips and Tricks web site
site.html) I get zilch. Nada.

Wondering what the trick is with the MySite. Reading over the
Microsoft article pertaining to customizing personal sites was
helpful in knowing to change the site definition for the public page
to follow the private pages theme (http://office.microsoft.com/en-
us/assistance/HA011648151033.aspx), but again, nothing on how to
programatically create the MySite with the defined theme of choice.

And then reading Mad's thoughts
(http://weblogs.asp.net/mnissen/articles/68629.aspx) on this topic
of course was somewhat discouring since it mentioned that a new
instance of the portal would be required to see any changes (I'm
guessing not true, rather that you can delete your MySite, do an IIS
Reset and make sure that your onet.xml is ready to rock and roll).

So, has anyone done this? Have MySites reference a theme
automatically at creation?
