Application Page VS Site Page VS webparts

Asked By: Dexter    Date: Sep 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1681

I have a design and development question. I am working on developing a
sharepoint site with multiple pages. the application's highlight is creating
tasks through K2 work flow and pages for displaying tasking assigning task etc .

The application is already created in asp.net and we are moving it to a
sharepoint site. I have thought that doing most of the pages as application
pages in sharepoint would be a better idea since there is a lot of code
associated with the pages like the create task page for e.g.

On the Dashboard we want to show all the tasks assigned to the user on on a grid
and when they select the particular task it will take them to another aspx page.
The Dashboard will all have another grid which shows all tasks that are created
even for other users. It also displays documents associated with the tasks and a
Chart. That is why I call it a dash board. It will also be the landing page.

My question is should I develop this dashboard page as an application page or
site page or is there a better way to develop dashboards ? If I develop it as an
application page can I add the chart as a web part ? Or does it have to be a
site page to add a web control ?. Also for the Grid which shows my task list is
it a good idea to use SPGRIDVIEW or any suggestion? Since this will be my first
real application development in Sharepoint I would really appreciate to hear
your suggestion.
