Anyone have experience with eComponent version controller?

Asked By: Katie    Date: Aug 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1116

e-Component (http://www.e-component.com/PS/Product/Default.aspx) has a
free document version controller. It limits the number of document
versions in a document library. If you set a max number of ten
versions for example, the oldest versions are deleted as newer
versions are added. It reminds me of a first-in, first out process
(like the cafeteria line).

I installed it in a test portal. It seemed to work for my document
library in WSS sites, but not for subwebs in the portal. I haven't
tried the pay version yet.

I am really hesitant to add anything to my production portal until I
know all the potential gotchas.

I have a tool which is designed to be run after the backup process which trims back the versions  to the set  criteria. I do this so that the versions can climb during the day but can be trimmed as a post process. Contact me off-list if you want a trial version.
