Anti-virus products

Asked By: Eugene    Date: Apr 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1598

Since regular server anti-virus products appear to provide protection,
what advantage would there be to putting another expensive anti-virus
product on the server, such as Portalshield? Do these "sharepoint aware"
products really provide significantly more protection?

Traditional server  antivirus product only protect the file system.
Share Point Server 20003 store its data in the SQL databases, which
required a special handling and request via the Microsoft Share Point
VSAPI to gather the files/documents for scanning. Also for real-time
scanning of the documents, product need to install in the share point
web service server (which contains the MS VSAPI) which is designed
specifically doing virus scanning. This is the most optimal way for
doing virus scanning in real-time, manual scan and schedule scan on the
share point, this is why AV vendors are building solutions to support
the environment.
