Another newbie question

Asked By: Jennifer Leach         Date: Nov 30, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 151

Still learning SharePoint and I have to say that I love it. It will go
far in my company.

I have the latest version of SharePoint Services installed (not MOSS)
and I've installed the Contact Management template. I've been trying
add the Links list to the default.aspx page and have it appear and
function like it does on the default home page of a new site. I've been
struggling with this for several hours and can't seem to figure it out.
Couldn't find anything useful in Help or Google either. I do have SP
Designer if needed.

I would greatly appreciate any help/advice/links...and feel free to
contact me off list if you like.

What exactly is the problem? What's wrong with the links  list?

Sorry...let me try to explain it a little better...

You know how on the home page  of a new Team site  the Links list  appears
on the right side of the page? It almost looks like a web part...and it
has that link under it to Add A New Link? Well, I want to add that to
the default.aspx page of the Contact Management template  that I just
installed. I want it to look and function just like the one on a new
Team Site.

If the problem is simply that it's missing the "add a new link" part,
then here's how to fix:

In the links  list's web part properties:
See the drop-down box called "Toolbar type"?
Change it to "summary toolbar"

The first step is to create a Links List. This will generate a ListView webpart
that you can add to the page  that represents the list. Webparts only display
data that is stored somewhere else, usually a SharePoint list.
