Anonymous user cannot search FBA site

I have a SharePoint 2007 site with two applications, one that's Active
Directory based, and the extended internet application side using Forms
Based Authentication. My FBA side allows anonymous browsing.

I have a requirement that anonymous browsers on the FBA application be
able to use the site search. They are prompted for FBA login instead
of seeing search results. Logged in FBA users can search the site
successfully.

Are there settings to allow a anonymous user to search a FBA site
without the need to log in? The anonymous users are able to browse the
application itself.

I've seen this before in WSS. The problem is that the default Search Results
page inherits from the Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.LayoutsPageBase
(WSS) or the Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.SearchResultsPage
(MOSS-which I believe inherits from LayoutPageBase). The LayoutsPageBase class
is hard coded with security that restricts it to viewing only by members of the
NTAuthority\Authenticated Users group. FBA users are not members of that group.
To fix it you need to set the page to inherit from the
Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.UnsecuredLayoutsPageBase.
