Anonymous Access Rights

Asked By: Mrigendra    Date: Nov 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1214

In my site I want to have three groups: reader, guest and admin. Admin
should have specialized rights whereas the guest should have only reader
rights. I want to give anonymous access to all except a few (i.e. the
admin group). Also I don't want to have a separate virtual server for
the same.

Please help on how to do this?

So you want anonymous  access for both reader  and guest? How are you going to
differentiate between the two?

The reader  is a person who is added on the sharepoint portal user list. Whereas
guest  could be anyone who visits the site.
There would be no difference between the rights  given to the reader and the
guest.
But the question is that how can I enable guest access  for people visiting the
portal?

I guess what I'm getting at is that if you allow anonymous  access to both user
roles how are you going to keep people from crossing roles? Or am I
misunderstanding your question?

Does this article help  you:

The question is that I have some users who are added by clicking on "manage
users". Now it's not possible to add all the users on the portal. How do I
enable guest access  for these users on the portal?

Also that article points to anonymous  access for WSS. But how do I enable the
same for SPS 2003?

Is that you are talking about when other people from
outside view your side , what permission to grant them
is it ? Because we dont know who is going to view our
site , so how can we grant access  to those people who
we dont know. rite ?

I want to grant them reader  rights.
Since we do not know who is going to visit our site  and it's not
possible to add all the users on the portal. Therefore I wanted to know
how do I enable
guest access  for these users on the portal?
