Anonymous Access to Mysites

Asked By: Kavisha    Date: May 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 716

I have enabled anonymous access both in central admin on the web app
that hosts mysites and in the site settings of the mysite itself (both
public and private) and it still doesn't work.
In addition, I can access a subsite of a mysite anonymously but not the
main mysite.
Any ideas?

From my testing I don't think its possible to get this to work. Because
of the way calls to the root of the MySite are re-directed to either a
public or private  view it will ALWAYS prompt for Authentication.

We are recommending that MySite users who want anonymous  access create a
subsite for their public information and set anonymous access  on that. This
helps them to think about what's public and what's not.

I encountered the same issue. From what I could figure out the MySites
are not able to be viewed anonymously even with anonymous  access
turned on. I was building a public web  site here is what I did.

I created a page layout for the profile data with a people picker web
control on the page only visible in edit mode. The people picker chose
the person that needed to be displayed on the page. I then created a
web part that read the user from the people picker and went to the
MySite profile store and displayed the information on the page that
was marked as public.

There was more complexity because I had other CMS content editors that
needed to edit the profile data on the page layout. Hopefully this
will get you on the right path.
