It is virtual - all content is stored in the database.

So can anyone explain what the flow is like ?.... When a document  is
uploaded to the Sharepoint server, What exactly happens and where does the
virtual directory

Document library  point to ? Are the documents actually stored into the SQL
server? ........... I have a stand alone component which has to be
integrated with

Everything is virtual and the documents are stored in the database. The only
items which live on the file system  are the "ghosted" pages - mostly
administrative items in /_layouts/ (e.g. the form page to upload new documents).

Your best bet on integration with other apps is to look at the SDK - there is an
Object Model interface that can be used for web parts, aspx pages, or standalone
programsd running locally on the server, or a web services interface that can be
used on remote machines. If you are only intererested in document  contents and
metadata, this can be accessed via WebDav and/or FPRPC.

i've figured out that one can use the event handlers toolkit to
manage the events happening on the document  Library. While uploading the
document(say

MyDoc.Doc) and saving, The Listing of the document happens thru a particular
URL. The URL is somethig like

http://SERVER_NAME/DocumentLibrary/MyDoc.Doc. What i want to do is that
change the URL on the fly  while uploading the document to something like

http://SERVER_NAME:8080/VIRTUAL_DIR_NAME/form.asp?
http://SERVER_NAME/DocumentLibrary/MyDoc.Doc

i.e i want to pass the original URL ofthe document as a GET method parameter
to a web based application tha i have created  and from there on my
application will

process the data. My web based application is hosted on the same machine but
on a diffrent port say 8080. How do i go about doing it. And i want to do it
for all

the document libraries irrespective of the sites. How do it go about doing
it.

Events are asynchronous and happen _after_ the action is complete, so your only
choice would be to have the event handler post-process the upload to do what you
want.

The other route you could take would be to use an IIS HTTP Filter instead of an
event - this would be synchronous and allow you to rewrite the URL.
