Alternate Portal Access

Asked By: Zackary    Date: May 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1181

I'm having an issue with our portal regarding the http addresses. We have to access the portal locally via http://servername, but externally we access the portal via http://servername.example.com." target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://servername.example.com.

The problem lies with accessing links to documents or sites within the portal. If someone adds a full url link to a document, then it will fail for all of our internal users. Basically someone is adding a link http://servername.example.com/mydoc.com and it will fail when we log into the portal locally. The reason is that internally we can't resolve the http://servername.example.com." target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://servername.example.com. I thought that the Alt Portal Access was going to help me out, but I don't think it is doing anything? I tried setting up an alt access with the example.com as an external url and the servername as a custom url. Do I need to restart IIS, or am I doing something wrong?

Recycle IIS and also the portal.
