Allow users with read-only access to start workflows

Asked By: Amolika    Date: Dec 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2562

I need to allow users w/read-only access on a doc lib to be able to
run workflows on these documents. I have a comments workflow - a user
starts the workflow to add a comment to the document (all it does it
make a comment in a Comments list that references the doc, which the
users DO HAVE contribute access to).

The users are not changing anything on the doc lib by running this
workflow, only the list referencing it, so it seems this should be
easily possible.

Workflows run under the permissions of the user of the moment. If they
cannot change anything were you ahving them manually start  the workflow?

Can you instead of having a workflow  on the document, have a meta data
field associated with the document, with a link to the create screen
for the list  that is being populated with the comment? The challenge I
suppose is getting an ID and or other field(s) to populate, or get the
user to enter in identifying info.
