Alerts without My Site

Asked By: Teddy    Date: Sep 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 939

My client would like for readers (without My Site access) to have the ability to
subscribe to alerts and receive them through email. Does anyone know if this is
possible? Or have a suggestion on how to make this possible.

Yes this is possible. If the readers  will not have My Site, then in the
Main Portal you need to import the My Alerts Summary web part. Then
click Site Settings and then Manage Alert Settings. It depends on
whether you want users to type in their email  address or not when
setting up an alert. If you don't allow the users to type in an email
address, then check the "Always use user profile field" checkbox. But if
you do allow the users to type in an eamil address, then uncheck this

Sorry, I don't think this can be done. In order to give the site  group
the access  to create alerts  you need to give them the "Use Personal
Featuers" right in the site group (either modify reader, use contributor
or create your own). Once you give them the Personal Features right is
applied the My Site option appears.
