Alerts not working when sending to groups

We are using SharePoint Server 2007 . The alerts are fine and working when
sending to individuals. But when i create an alert for a group with a lot of
users , i dont get any error message but no email like "you have succesfully
created an alert .." is sent either.

Any suggestions ?
