Is there a way to sign a lot of people up for alerts  to an area
automatically?

This can be done programatically using the OM running as an administrator.

Can I as an administrator setup alerts  to go to others? or just
myself?
Sharepoint v 2.0

When I tried to set up alerts to go to others, it switched
everything to them, including my own alerts not just the folder I
created for each team  memeber, do i have to log in as them and then
set up their alerts?
I'm a bit confused....
I will be wanting to set up alerts for a few hundred people soon and
could use a little help... I didn't see anything about setting up
alerts for other team members as a site administrator.

Not possible out of the box but check out this excellent blog that shows
you a WebPart using the OM to do it!

How do you send an alert to a group if you've just posted an
announcement? Can this be done automatically? I know I can set an
alert for myself.

Answer #8    Answered By: Donald Torres     Answered On: Dec 15

You can only set alerts  for yourself from the UI, but can set alerts for others
(if you are an admin) programmatically using the Object Model.
