Adding Users & Teamsite Error - Hit & Miss

Asked By: Sebastian Gates         Date: Jul 18, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 207

When we add users to teamsite we sometimes get the following error:

The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error in sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly to send e-mail.
To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact your server administrator.

When I perform an iisreset on the SharePoint servers, everything works fine. We can add users without any errors.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a particular boot order for
SharePoint? Example, SQL server first, Server, etc

Any insights would be gladly accepted.

Use stsadm.exe to backup a site collection or smigrate.exe to backup a single site. However, remember that smigrate is not a full fidelity backup – it won’t preserve security settings, global settings or some customizations.

I’ve not heard of this and if it is intermittent, then I’d think it is a candidate for a hotfix. You might want to call PSS and see if they have any KB articles you can reference before paying the $250.
