Adding "product activiation/licensing" functionality to a SharePoint

Asked By: Chelsea    Date: Oct 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 816

Has anyone seen or otherwise figured out a solution for adding
"product activiation/licensing" functionality to a SharePoint solution
sold as a site or list template?

That is, when a user creates an instance of a SharePoint template, the
initial functionality would represent a "light" version of the
solution and when acitivated through some sort of mechanism, enables
additional functional or removes, say, the limits on the number of
items in a list, etc.?

We did this using a DLL that every Web Part in the solution  required.
When that DLL expired, so did the entire solution. The Web Parts knew to
display the expired message that explained how it could be reactivated.
