Similar to this. I have a web  application running  in a linux box say web01. I
would like to all the users  whoever have access  to SPS2003 portal to access
web01 without using the password again.

I know microsoft doesn't support Linux. But I am guess if there is a way that I
can create a link on SPS2003 portal like the following it would work for me.

<a href="http://web01/index.jsp?username=encripted(windows_username)" >Link to
web01 </a>

So my question is how do we get to know "windows_username"

If the application is authenticated (sounds like it from your description) look
into the Single Sign-on Services in SPS2003.

I would say your answer is to use a mod for your web  application to
support authentication against a windows domain. For example, on Apache
you'd use mod_auth or mod_XXX where you get the mod that queries LDAP or
Kerberos or NTLM authentication. Then you'd point your server to your
domain controllers. Your users, when they do an HTTP GET to web01,
their credentials would be passed along with it and web01 would allow
them access.
