Adding Hidden Site Columns to Content Type

Asked By: Bobbi    Date: Apr 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 5207

I am trying to add a bunch of Hidden Site Columns to my Content Type

E-Mail Sender
E-Mail To
E-Mail Cc
E-Mail From
E-Mail Subject

I am doing some rapid prototyping. How can I do it without Programming or
without Creating Content type as Feature ?

First enable management of content  type in the list:

Go to list settings -> advanced settings and select radio button next to enable
management of content type  click ok button

Next mark the fields as hidden:
Go to list settings -> in the content type section select the hyperlink of the
content type (most likely says "item") -> On the List Content Type page click
the hyperlink that is your column name you want to hide i.e. "E-Mail Sender" or
"E-mail To" etc. -> on the next page Change List Content Type Column page select
the radio button next to hidden  then ok button -> use the breadcrumb trail to
get back to the list or list settings

Your column is now a hidden column!!!

If you are using this as static field values then make sure to set the default
value in the column properties under list settings!

If you don't want the column displayed in the list view then you need to modify
the avtual view of that list and remove those columns. On the right of the list
you should see a view drop down. Select modify view and make your changes.

Let me rephrase

just like we have hidden  Content Types in SharePoint, we also have Hidden Site

I want to create a Content Type and add  few Hidden Site columns  by unhiding

These hidden columns are
E-Mail Sender
E-Mail To
E-Mail Cc
E-Mail From
E-Mail Subject

I can unhide them programmatically, but I was wondering if any sharepoint guru
can point out something by playing around with URLs, query strings etc to do it.

If the fields were added to views before you make then hidden  you will
need to remove them from each view manually.
