Adding Groups from Active Directory

Asked By: Mayur Rane         Date: Feb 19, 2008      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 457

From the administartion point of view, I need to know how can I view all the
Distrbition List of the active Directory? I can view some of the Distrbition
List not all although i look into their settings and i can not notice any
difference between them. Can anyone help me to figure this out? Is it the
active directory query?

BTW: I look into the view import Connections and I found that it has
connection to active directory.

All I want to make the authentication based on the mail lists in my
sharepoint website to ease the administration of members. Can anyone help me
to accomplish this?

Whether you can see all the Distribution lists  or not, you can't base
authentication on a distribution list  since authentication  requires a
Security Identifier and Distribution Lists may or may not have a SID.
It may be that is why you aren't seeing all of them. You may be seeing
the ones with SIDs and not the ones without.

Sure

Right click the group in ad and then click security

This will make it amail enabled security group (if it was a dl previously)

If I am not mistaken for the permissions point  of view  you can not assign
distrubution lists
you can only assign security groups.

The problem that I can view  some groups  but others are not? I know this is
very weird but my be by some brainstorming we can solve it.
