Adding External Links to Site Map

Asked By: Palash    Date: Sep 26    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1643

Question
--------
Is is possible to add external links in the "Home" section of the
"Portal Site Map" so they display at the top of all pages?

Background
----------
We have an intranet that we've built up over the last five years, so
it is quite large. We are wanting to migrate everything to SharePoint
Portal Server, but we would like to do this over an extended length of
time, and as seemlessly as possible.

Our current intranet has primary top navigation similar to SPPortal.
For example, we currently have Home, General Info, Human Resources,
Departments,... Ultimately we will create new sites for all these
areas, but not to begin with.

If teh first area I create on SharePoint Portal Server is the Human
Resources area, I can easily update the "Human Resources" links on the
old intranet to point to the new SharePoint Portal Site for Human
Resources. However, I would like to have the links at the top of the
Human Resources page on SPPS for Home, General Info, and Departments
point back to our old intranet pages.

Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. If you have
other ideas for a smooth migration, I would be interested in hearing
those as well.
