Adding both documents and links to documents in a single library

Asked By: Melanie    Date: Dec 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2093

I'm trying to add both documents and links to documents on a
network file share to a document library. If I create a link library I
have no problem adding links in the form of file://\\(computer name)
\folder\file, but after adding the link to a document in my file types
to a document library it refuses to add a link that doesn't begin with
the http or https designation it refuses to add anything.

Try adding  a Link Content Type to a document  library.

Thanks for trying but that isn't my problem, I'm trying to add  a link
to a document  in a file  share on my network, not to another
SharePoint library. Since it doesn't have a web address it has to
use the file://\\(computer name)\(file). I've seen posts regarding
recoding the aspx page but to change the action of http\https
required but was looking for a quicker way. Any other ideas?

Back in the v2 days, I used the meta refresh approach.

That link  seems to be broken.... any update?

The link  wraps. The page name is AddALinkToADocumentLibrary.aspx. You
may have to fill out whatever gets cut off in the wrap.

Links in this group always get mangled...
