Adapting the homepage

Asked By: Faith Scott         Date: Apr 19, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 446

My boss wants a real easy
intranet for mega-dummies ; he wants to have EVERYTHING on the
homepage : categories (ok, no problem) and the possibility to click
on a category, to view the docs inside, and to immediatly have the
possibility to check in a document from there. So you should have :

title of your document
TITLE_WORD_DOC
Descriptions
Discuss/Subscribe/CHECK IN or CHECK OUT/ PRINT

So, I could leave the dashboards : Categories/Documents
Library/Subscriptions/Management hidden for readers.

Is this possible or should I wait for version SPS 10 ??

Not sure if this answers but the short answer is anything that is
presently in the portal can be exported as a web part and then
reimported wherever you want it to be. I would recommend exporting it to
document section of the web store so that it travels with you in
backup/restore. Of course you will document  it in the install doc so it
may not matter :)

In this way, you can custom match a dashboard to company preference.
Keep in mind, the more that is on a dashboard, the longer to render. You
will want to check  out the cacheing available in SPS SP1 which will
speed up big pages considerably.
