Can AD Groups be used for Primary Site Collection Administrators?

Setting up a site collection today, I got to the screen where I set the site
admins. I would love to use an AD group here but, it seems to only accept
individual AD users for the Primary and Secondary admins. Can anyone confirm
this functionality? Is there any work around? Thoughts?

Yes. That does work. Just curious that it can't be handled from the creation
menu. Now can you tell me is the security level of access the same for the
primary admin and the site  collection admins?

That page is available via the site  Collection admins  link in the Users and
permissions column of the site settings page on the top level site of the site
collection. Although you can use this page to add more than two site collection
administrators I've never been able to use a group  here. Permissions are the
same as the regular site collection  admins, but I'm not sure if people added
here get the same emails as the regular two site collection admins.
