Active Directory Group restricts specific My Site functionality

In the Best Practices book, it said that a drawback to using Active
Directory Groups was that it restricted specific My Site
functionality. I haven't been able to find any further details on
this. We are thinking about using both Active Directory groups within
SharePoint and My Sites. Can anyone tell me what the specific My Site
functionality is that is restricted?

The "SharePoint Sites" web part will only display sites  where the user
is added individually to the Member group.
