ACTIVE DIRECTORY CREATION MODE

Asked By: Salvatore Boone         Date: Nov 10, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 230

i have an existing portal running on the intranet which i now want to
open up to extranet users, but they dont have active directory
accounts so im going to use active directory creation mode, but what i
dont understand is that the microsoft books say that the external user
just adds his email address, and if this isnt mapped to a domain
account then an automatic username and password is generated to allow
him to access site? is it that easy?

Active Directory Creation mode  is basically a way to have each user get an
auto-created AD account - it's not a way to avoid AD altogether. Be aware that
if you use this, then you cannot use existing  AD accounts - it's one or the
other. Also keep in mind this is for Windows SharePoint Services only - it's
not available for SharePoint Portal Server 2003.
