Accessing Edit with SP Designer through IE

Asked By: Benjamin    Date: Feb 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1313

I used to be able to edit pages in SP Designer by viewing them in IE, then
selecting "Edit with SP Designer" from the File menu. At some point that option
changed and now I only have the option to edit with MS FrontPage (I have both
apps installed). Any idea how to get the SP Designer option back?

Have you tried a Repair install on SPD?

Take a look at the Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs tab in IE.
This is where you set your default HTML editor. That is what IE uses as
the default in the menus and toolbar. Yours got reset to Front Page
somehow.

I should have mentioned I tried that, but SP Designer is not showing up
as an option  for HTML editor. I'll try the install repair.

I'm beginning to think this is an IE issue. I removed FrontPage
completely, deleted SP Designer then reinstalled, and it still doesn't
show up as an option  for html editor within IE. Any other ideas?

I haven't been able to find where the list is stored. But the HTML
editor setting is stored in a registry key un
HKEYCurrentUser>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Default HTML
Editor.

I exported the key from a box where things are working correctly and
added it to my machine. It's right there in the registry but for some
reason IE doesn't find it. Weird. This is driving me crazy! Any other
ideas will be greatly appreciated.
