Access Denied Problem

Asked By: Hannah    Date: Sep 19    Category: MOSS    Views: 736

We have a team site that does not inherit premissions from the parent.
Some individuals cannot get to the team default.aspx page. they get an
Access denied error page event though they have been given specitific
permisssons to the site. But here's is the kicker: they can get to
libraries and list on the site but not to the home page. Any
idesa?

We see this from time to time also, the main issue may be that they can't access
the top-level site where their account is trying to be written to the site
collection's UIL, or User Information List. Ever notice that the All Users list
has way more people than it should? Those people passed by at one point or
another and got access to your site collection. All it means is that they
touched the site or a subsite in the collection and got written to that UIL.

I think that if the users are not given any access to that top-level site then
they won't be written to the UIL.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. Please.

They were deleted from the site and readded to http://server/teamsite/ They
can get to http://server/teamsite/DOCS/ directly but if they try to use the
bread crumb from there or go directly to http://server/teamsite/ they get
the access denied error.

the default.aspx page does have a CorasWorks Calendar roll up web part and
it may be that they don't have accees to one to the calendar's that is
feeding the webpart. I need to explore further.

Can they get to http://server/teamsite/default.aspx?contents=1 ? If so,
then it is one of the web parts on the page that is causing the problem.
You can start deleting web parts one at a time to see which one is
causing the problem.

I think the permissions for "Pages" document library differs. Did you check
whether the Users have access to "Pages" library ?
