3rd party SSO

Asked By: Johnpaul    Date: Aug 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1782

Here is an update for all of you looking for a way to integrate a
3rd party SSO into SharePoint. I just found out that Microsoft is
working with other companies such as Netgrity, to incorporate 3rd
party SSO services into the SharePoint product. How it was explained
to me was they are creating what's call Active Directory
Federated Services (ADFS) which allows communications between the
LDAP servers and the AD servers. From what I understood this is how
it works. A dialog box pops up asking for your Netgrity Siteminder
sign on info, you put that in and it gets sent off to the policy
server and the policy server has a way to connect to the AD domain
thru ADFS and querying AD for the matching name once it finds the
info its looking for in AD it gets the NT credentials and passes it
back to the SharePoint server thus authenticating the user and
logging them into SharePoint. From what I have herd is this should
be released Q4 2005.

There's an MSDN webcast on ADFS here: msdn.microsoft.com/theshow/episode047/default.as
