3rd Party Admin tools

After running this SharePoint installation for three months and taking
it through 3 environments I have come to feel that the admin tools
selection is woefully inadequate in SharePoint out of the box. I have
started to evaluate some 3rd party tools for admin and backup/restore
and would love user input.

I would like to know what you guys are using for these areas, if you
like it or not, and why.

So far I have looked at some of the Quest stuff and also AvePoint.

Since the tools are not cheap I would like to do due dilligence in this

I've used AvePoint with 2003, and loved it. I currently use CommVault
for 2003, and will be looking to use DPM for 2007.

Idera's backup tool for SharePoint looks quite good.

Why have you decided to move from AvePoint to DPM with 2007? Don't you
lose a lot of the interesting site and permissions management
capabilities while still paying a hefty price?

AvePoint / CommVault are both a lot pricier. In addition, our licensing
agreement already gives us DPM 2007 ...so why not  use it. So far, I've
been very happy with DPM.

Take a look at ControlPoint - it has a lot of SP admin. functionality.
