32 or 64 bit?

Asked By: Marco    Date: Feb 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 13919

ive been using the free SPv3 running on Windows server and we are now
ready to install after buying a select enterprise agreement.

I've been asked do we want to install 32 bit or 64 bit. I have no
idea. Realistically we will only have about 300 users. We are using a
clustered SQL db and a dedicated apps server.

can anyone make a useful suggestion? It means nothing to me. I only
know that further development in Visual Studio needs to be done in 32
if we install 32bit now. Apart from that what do I need to know?

We are an ANCIENT organisation. Most of the systems here are still
running on servers purchased and configured in 1989.

If you don't need the large memory support and performance improvements
in x64, then you're safer sticking with 32 bit. The drivers are more
available and there are a few gotchas that still haven't been fully
worked out in x64 yet.
