2007 - 2010 migration scenario: Tools for locating customizations

Date: May 29    Category: MOSS    Views: 1078

In a 2007 > 2010 migration scenario, what are the best tools for locating
customizations *and* where they are used in a MOSS 2007 environment?

For example,

- New or changed content types, site columns
- Custom fields
- Event receivers
- Web site user templates (.stp)
- Custom web site definitions
- Custom web parts
- New or changed ASP pages
- Etc. etc. etc.

Are they any tools (commercial or open source) that will help i) locate
these customizations and ii) detail where they are used?

Speaking of migration, 2010, and tools, Any suggestions for third party disaster
recovery tools? We looked at quests tool but just wanted to see if there is a
better tool out there and get some opinions, I know Idera was calling me a while
back too? Any thoughts?

I'm using Idera, and not real happy with it. I'm not sure whether or not some of
my server issues may or may not be attributable to the Idera backup software. I
will say that it's pretty easy to use.

I have used the Question Migration tool, and highly recommend it. For
backup, I have used both Quest and DocAve, both work very well and are easy
to use.
