How 2 modify the home page

I want to customize the Default.aspx page which is created when i
extend a VS in WSS.

for a WYSIWYG approach of editing, use ms frontpage 2003 to customize
individual WSS/SPS 2003 aspx web pages. developmental approach comes with
VisualStudio.Net 2003.
