2 Custom Lists

I have a custom list called Project - with Project ID, Project Name, Project Manager, Organization.

I have a second list that captures document data. When the user uploads a document and they select the Project ID, I want the other fields Project Name, Project Manager and Organization to automatically populate the other columns in the document data list. I know it's possible, I just don't know how to do this. We are on version 2003.

I would like to clarify - The first list: Project is a data  view web part, pulling data from an Oracle data source.

I would suggest writing an event handler for the library and then you can update your custom  fields.

I have never written an event handler for a library before. Is there
an example, tutorial on the web or a book you might recommend?
