In the XML-definition of the BDC the IN-parameter containing the filter-value, must be before the return parameter. When using the BDC Catalog Definition Editor, the IN-parameter is placed after the return parameter, if it is already present. By editing the XML-definition and moving the IN-parameter before the return-parameter, the problem  is solved.
