For your scenario, you can create a KPI list using data in SharePoint list: On the KPI list toolbar>click New >Select the KPI type “Indicator using data in SharePoint list>Under SharePoint List and View, in the List URL, enter the URL of your document  library (the document library  must be in the same site collection).
